Candidate Joe Sestak
Joe Sestak (67) is a candidate for the Democratic Presidential Nomination in the 2020 election. Sestak entered the race days before the first Democratic presidential debate was held and has not participated in any debates, failing to meet the minimum requirements for eligibility. Graduating second in his class at the United States Naval Academy, he served in the United States Navy for over 31 years and rose to the rank of three-star admiral. He has served as the Director for Defense Policy on the National Security Council staff under President Clinton and commanded the USS George Washington carrier during combat operations in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean in 2002. Sestak was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 in Pennsylvania’s heavily Republican 7th district and was reelected in 2008. He is known for his walking as a campaign strategy – walking 422 miles across his home state of Pennsylvania to meet the voters, and recently walked 105 miles across New Hampshire. He supports Family Leave Benefits, funding Early Childhood Education, and a national apprentice job-training program.
