Candidate Julian Castro

On January 12, 2019, Julian Castro (44), announced his run for the Democratic nomination for president. He served as the mayor of San Antonio from 2009 until 2014 and then joined Obama’s cabinet in 2014 as the 16th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Castro supports universal pre-kindergarten, and for making the first two years of higher education free.  His campaign will likely focus on Medicare For All, bettering the environment, and a pathway to citizenship for most undocumented workers. He is the identical twin brother of current United States Representative Joaquin Castro.
