Candidate Bill de Blasio

On May 16, 2019, Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City, announced his candidacy for the Democratic nominee for president. He started his career as an elected official by serving on the New York City Council representing the 39th district in Brooklyn from 2002 to 2009. His time as public advocate saw a reformation of various educational, housing, and campaign finance policies. He was elected mayor in 2014. His campaign will likely focus on issues important to him in the past like universal pre-kindergarten, technology and innovation, and immigration. Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray, an activist and poet, have two children.
