Mueller: DPOE and Next Steps
Evanston friends, neighbors, patriots; Lend me your eyes,
In the aftermath of the Mueller investigation I, and most likely you, are in a perpetual state of turmoil. In the days ahead the Mueller report will be making its way through Congress, hopefully. What happens there is anyone’s guess. I am exhausted from guessing what will happen next.
In the meantime, here is what I plan to do. I will redouble my efforts preparing for the 2020 election. In short, it is our very own backyard that can make or break the election and impact, perhaps forever our American Democracy. Language and words still matter and I am mindful of using hyperbole, I am nearly certain this is not hyperbole. I believe you may agree.
The Trump presidency was made possible because of what did not happen in the midwest. Donald Trump picked up a whopping 50 more electoral votes from this region than Mitt Romney did, and very nearly added 10 more. Moreover, these increases stunned seasoned analysts. We are in unprecedented territory on so many soul crushing levels. It is therefore imperative that we, ALL of us, do something, ACT. I have a few suggestions:
As mindful as I am of venturing into hyperbole I am, in equal measures going to be careful of my recommendations to you. If I did not absolutely believe in the work that we do I would never brazenly ask, no, implore you for your support. The beating heart of the Democratic Party of Evanston is located in a bright blue spot in a very blue state. All of us on the DPOE board and so many of you in the membership use that blue brightness as a beacon for all of our neighbors who are either suffering, like those in Wisconsin under a power grabbing lame duck Republican party who would undo what the voters did in the midterms or enduring a deep sense of malaise because of the unrelenting lies and corruption that we must witness daily.
After the election that brought us Trump, DPOE formed the Midwest Alliance of Progressives to take our bright blue beacon and lend a helping hand to our neighbors in primarily Wisconsin, and Michigan, with dreams of helping Indiana and Iowa. For example, right now we are phone banking for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. At DPOE we are getting the job done. I would love to convince you that your support has made and will continue to make a tremendous difference but I need to be brief so here is a link to our inspiring accomplishments. https://evanstondems.com/2019/01/17/data-from-our-blue-wave-effort/
Please, double please, renew your membership, right now. We are in a new cycle, in January we started a new year and I hope you will renew your membership as a way to redouble your efforts in preparation for the 2020 race. We are presenting our members with constant opportunities to make a difference. Our political guru, Greg Andrus is scouring the races in the midwest and in some cases like the Roy Moore race, nationwide for constant work opportunities for us. We cannot travel but we can call or send postcards. There is work to be done, and I hope you will help us get the work done. On our conference call on Sunday with our Wisconsin and Michigan MAP partners Greg declared an interest in preventing anyone from taking up a hobby. I agree. Hobbies can wait, our American Democracy cannot.
Join me! Renew, make a donation of time or money or BOTH. You’ll be glad that you did.
Democratic Party of Evanston President.
PS on April 28th we will be celebrating with one of the candidates MAP worked tirelessly to elect, Lauren Underwood. It is going to be fun and it is a fundraiser that supports the work that helped get her elected. Click here to sign up.
